Welcome! I’m Dalibor Škorić, your guide through the fascinating, and sometimes overwhelming world of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. My journey here wasn’t a straight line, but a unique blend of engineering, software development, teaching, and a deep dive into data – and that diverse experience is exactly what I bring to this site.
My Foundation: Engineering Meets Data
I studied data science in my senior years of Mechanical Engineering (4th and 5th). My academic roots are in Mechanical Engineering, specifically Industrial Engineering, at the Belgrade University, Serbia. This program had a strong focus on applying data science principles to optimize industrial processes and production organization. What made it particularly valuable was its curriculum, heavily influenced by Purdue University in the later years. Here, I built a solid analytical toolkit through core subjects like Mathematics 3 (linear differential equations, scalar and vector fields), Quantitative Methods (industry applied statistics), Operational Research (gradient method, cost analysis, forecasting methods, decision making, linear and nonlinear programming), and Databases. These weren’t just abstract concepts; they were the bedrock for understanding how data drives efficiency and decision-making in the real world.
From Code to Classroom to Control Systems
Armed with this foundation, I spent over 15 years as a Software Engineer, tackling complex problems and building robust solutions. Alongside this, I discovered a passion for sharing knowledge, spending 5 years teaching essential CAD (AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks) and BIM (Revit MEP) programs. This teaching experience honed my ability to break down intricate technical subjects into understandable steps. I also gained hands-on experience in automation as a PLC programmer, understanding the critical interface between software and physical machinery.
The Convergence: Data Science, ML & AI
Throughout these varied roles, I saw a common thread: the growing power and importance of data. My engineering background gave me the problem-solving mindset, my software experience provided the technical skills, and my teaching experience showed me the value of clear communication. It became clear that Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI were the fields where all these threads converged. They offered the most powerful tools to extract meaning from data, build intelligent systems, and solve complex problems – perfectly synthesizing my formal education and diverse practical experience. I made the full commitment to dive deep into this transformative domain.
